He's an award-winning writer and speaker who has been consulted on the topic of BigData by the popular TV show "60 Minutes". advises various universities on their graduate analytics programs, and named to over a dozen "Experts to Follow" list in social media. You'll also find Paul taking a very active role around Women in Technology (including a seated board member for Women 2.0 a global network and social platform for aspiring and current female founders of technology ventures.

 

Paul has written 19 books and over 360 articles on data. He doesn't think NoSQL is something you put on a resume if you don't have SQL skills and he knows JSON isn't a person in his department.

Kathleen is a full-time professor at the School of Business, St. Lawrence College, in Kingston ON. She brings to the school over 20 year’s experience in marketing strategy, integrated marketing communications, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) strategy and implementation and Business Intelligence (BI). She is passionate about bringing a business together through the use of strategic planning, market research, consumer knowledge and implementing solutions using the most current technologies available, to capitalize on business efficiency and effectiveness. Ultimately, maximizing the customer experience.

 

Kathleen is a graduate of St. Lawrence College, and returned as an enthusiastic educator, mentor and student advocate. She is constantly working to bring the students the best possible classroom experience through simulations, experiential learning and business competitions. She aims to develop curiosity, a passion for lifelong learning and critical thinking in all her students.

 

In her spare time, she is an avid adventurer enjoying time kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, camping, downhill skiing and horseback riding.

Craig Desjardins moved to the city of Kingston in 2016 to become Senior Manager, Office of Strategy, Innovation and Partnerships. In February this year he was promoted to Director of the office.

Big Data, ethics, law & privacy

Karen is a Professor in the School of Business at St. Lawrence College and an instructor at Queen’s University in the areas of health policy, ethics and law and is qualified to practice law in Ontario. Karen's specialty is in research ethics, health information privacy, consent and capacity, regulation of health professions and various other topics in health law and ethics. 

 

 

For the past 15 years Karen has sat as a member of the Health Sciences Research Ethics Board at Queen's she is also a member of the Law Society of Ontario. As part of the Biotika consulting group she has worked on projects across Canada, including Health Canada, the Ombudsman Manitoba, the Canadian Institute for Health Information, the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences, the Institute for Safe Medication Practices Canada, the Interagency Panel on Research Ethics and the First Nations  Information Governance Centre.

Dean McKeown is the Associate Director of the Scotiabank Centre for Customer Analytics at Smith School of Business, Queen’s University. His current interests are change management during corporate digital transformation and the introduction of artificial intelligence for ethical business decision making.  He has worked in the post-secondary education sector and has enjoyed creating and managing a variety of entrepreneurial initiatives at Queen's University including new academic programs, marketing and IT.  He is currently studying the application of artificial intelligence systems for business decision-making and change management during digital transformations.  He  enjoys working with a few charitable organizations and governance bodies.

Megan Bailey is a Professor of Health Information Management at St. Lawrence College. Megan has worked in various analytical and application development roles since graduating from Trent University in 2008. Her former employers include, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, the East Central Ontario Training Board and most recently the South East Local Health Integration Network. Megan’s belief in evidence based planning for health system quality improvement provides the foundation for her Master’s thesis, which she is currently completing at McMaster University.

Joe Cooper is the Financial Services Lead for Eastern Canada. Before Alteryx Joe spent the majority of his working career at IBM, with time spent in their Analytics and Analytics Solutions department. Joe is a recent graduate of the Queen’s University Masters in Management Analytics program. Joe is working with some of Canada’s largest institution helping the lines of business to leverage self-service analytics to improve their analytics culture across their organization.

Nathan is the Co-Founder of Mero, a startup delivering analytical tools to facilities with IoT technology.  He has held various business development roles, having been raised in a family retail business.  Past highlights include being part of a team raising $50M for a real-estate revitalization project in Yangon, Myanmar, and helping scale a Toronto-based healthcare startup’s customer-base by 209% in only 6 months.  He is an alumnus of the Master of Management in Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Queen’s University, and has given talks on the topics of AI, entrepreneurship and technology in the past.

Aije Is one of the hosts of the events, She has an Undergraduate degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Manitoba and is a Data Consultant with EBCHIM Analytics, where she works on Strategic Analytics and Data Science training with the organization. In addition, she is a volunteer Data Scientist with the City of Kingston and is currently building Business Intelligence applications, on behalf of the Workforce Strategy and In-Migration Analytics Working Group, for the City of Kingston. She also works with SLC Innovation Hub as a Performance Management Analyst, designing dashboards for metric reporting by using SalesForce and Tableau. She is also finishing the post graduate program in Business Analytics, and, is the President, Big Data and Artificial intelligence SLC club. She recently completed a teaching session on R programming at the Big Data and AI programming BootCamp.
